FAQs study in Canada, Education Agent, Lagos Nigeria

Below we have provided answers to some Canada study permit (Canada study visa) related questions, often asked by Nigerian students intending to study in Canada.

STUDY IN CANADA FAQ

Q: What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?

A: There are many reasons why a Nigerian student wanting to study in Canada may be refused a Canadian study permit. Based on our extensive years of handling Canadian study visa applications, we can say that below are the common reasons why Nigerians who intend to study in Canada have their visas refused:
Intended program/course of study in Canada is not related to the student’s previous education and/or employment history.
Insufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses.
Lack of ties (e.g. family ties, social ties, economic ties, etc.) to your home country (i.e. Nigeria).
Length of study in Canada (i.e. the duration of the course/program in Canada, is too short).
Financial documents (i.e. bank statement) of student and/or sponsor shows inconsistent balances and recent lump sum deposits.
Misrepresentation (Document Fraud). Misrepresentation diminishes the overall credibility of the visa application submitted, and thus results in a visa refusal. Examples of misrepresentations would be:
Not declaring that you have been refused a visa for another country.
False or altered documents, such as: bank statement, marriage certificate, visas, birth certificate, etc.

Also, we find that there are some mistakes made on the part of the visa applicant, which may result in their visa refusal, such as:
Poorly completed visa application forms.
Inadequate supporting documents are submitted.
Ignorance on the part of the student, which results in the student not answering the questions in the visa application form properly.
And more!

* These mistakes and much more, can be avoided by making use of the services of a knowledgeable and experienced education agent/consultant. So, this is where the services of Plumville comes in.

Q: How much do I (or my sponsor) need to show in my bank account, in order to apply for my Canadian study permit?

A: You must prove that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and any accompanying family member, while you are in Canada for Study. The minimum amount that you will need is as follows:
SINGLE STUDENT: Tuition fee for one year + $10,000 for a 12-month period (or $833 per month).
+ ONE FAMILY MEMBER: Additional $4,000 for a 12-month period (or $333 per month).
+ EACH ADDITIONAL FAMILY MEMBER: Another additional $3,000 for a 12-month period per dependent child of any age (or $255 per month).

Q: In applying for my Canada study permit/visa, I want to use a sponsor who is not related to me. Will this reduce my chances of securing a Canada student visa?

A: The best option is having a sponsor who is your family member (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, etc.). However, if you decide to use a sponsor who is not your family member, the letter of financial support that your sponsor will provide to you, has to include a rational explanation as to why this person is financing your studies.
If you choose to make use of our (i.e. Plumville) service, we will provide you with a “Letter of Financial Support Template”, which your sponsor should use in writing your letter.

Q: Why should I pay my tuition fees to the Canadian educational institution, before I apply for my Canadian student visa (study permit)?

A:
It should be noted that payment of tuition fees is not a prerequisite for visa approval. However, from our years of experience assisting students with visa application to Canada, we have discovered that when students pay their tuition fees before they apply for their study permit, it significantly increases their chance of receiving a visa. We believe that when you pay your tuition fees upfront, you are convincing the visa officer that your primary reason to come to Canada is for education. So, we recommend that you pay a portion of your tuition fees (ideally at least for your first semester), or full tuition fees (if you can afford it), before you apply for your student visa.

And don’t worry, your tuition fees are safe and secure with the Canadian educational institution. In a case where your visa is refused by the Canadian High Commission, the Canadian school will refund your tuition fees.
So ask yourself, do you want to increase your chance of receiving a visa? If yes, then pay your tuition fees.

Q: I applied for a Canadian study permit/visa by myself (or using a different agent) and my application was refused. What should I do next?

A: If your Canadian study permit/visa application was refused, we do not advise that you re-apply ‘blindly’. We recommend that the next action you should take is to request for your visa file (i.e. Access to Information & Personal Information Request) from Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada - IRCC (formerly: Citizenship & Immigration Canada - CIC). This is important because you cannot rely solely on the grounds (i.e. reasons) that were checked off in the visa refusal letter that was given to you by IRCC.

Keep in mind that only an authorized individual can make a request for Access to Information from IRCC. So that means, a visa applicant whose application was refused, will likely not be able to request for their visa file on their own. The good news is that we offer Access to Information services (i.e. Canadian visa case file request), so you should Contact Us to assist you with requesting for your prior visa case file(s) from IRCC.

Q: Why should I request for my visa file (i.e. Access to Information) from Citizenship & Immigration Canada – CIC (now: Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada – IRCC), when I am refused a visa?

A: It is essential that you request for your visa file (i.e. Access to Information & Personal Information Request) from IRCC after a visa refusal because this gives you a better perspective why your visa was refused. The visa refusal letter that you were given by IRCC, is a general letter that they provide to all visa applicants whose visa was refused, and this letter has a limited number of checkboxes that the visa officer can choose from. So, the Canadian visa officer will usually choose the option(s) that closely aligns to the reason why your visa was refused, but this may not be the specific reason why your visa was refused.

However, if you request for your visa file, the exact and detailed reason(s) why your visa was refused will be contained in the visa officer’s notes of your visa file. So, once you are aware of the particular reason(s) why your visa was refused, you will then be in a better position to act accordingly.

Please note that only a Canadian Citizen or a Canadian Landed Immigrant (Canadian Permanent Resident) or a Canadian visa applicant that is resident in Canada, can request for a visa file from IRCC. So, if you are based in Nigeria and your study visa application have been refused, that means that you cannot request for your visa file on your own; because you are not authorized to. Therefore, you should Contact Us to assist you with requesting for your visa file.

74 Comments on “STUDY IN CANADA FAQs: Canada Student Visa/Permit Application Questions for Nigerians (Part 2)

  1. Hello, I had my masters in the uk from 2009-2011 in Manufacturing systems and management. Since i returned to my country i have been working as a Quality assurance/Quality Control Engineer. I recently applied to concordia university in quebec for masters in Quality systems Engineering, Though i was offered admission when i applied to them in 2009. I find the course so Interesting that i want to go back and have another masters.
What are my chances that i would be offered a visa? Am also married with a kid. If offered admission, is it advisable to apply alone or with my family.

    1. Hello Henry,
In general, there should be some form of progression in education, otherwise you should be prepared to provide a rational explanation. So, since you already have a masters degree, the ideal step will be for you to pursue a doctoral program (PhD) program, instead of another masters program. For visa purpose, stating that you find the course interesting as your explanation for wanting to have another masters, does not seem convincing… The Canadian visa officers will believe that you are only using studying, as a means to immigrate to Canada. So, if you intend to go this route, you should be prepared to write a strong statement of purpose that you will include in your visa application.
On the other hand, the decision whether a student should include their family in their initial study permit application, or have their family join them at a later date, is usually analyzed holistically based on your visa application package. Hence, if you make use of Our Visa Application Assistance Service, we will advise you accordingly. Alternatively, you can Purchase Our “Canada Student Visa Guide E-book”, it contains vital information that answers the question, “How do I determine whether my spouse and/or dependent children should accompany me to Canada now, or join me later?”

  2. hello, i have a 2.1 in engineering from a Nigerian university, i applied to study project management in humber college without the knowledge of the fact that i should not have done such. i applied for my student permit with the consulate and i got a refusal letter stating “You have not satisfied me that you will leave canada at the end of your stay, considering several factors such as; travel history (i have but was not part of the documents submitted) and purpose of study. please is it possible to reapply as a masters student for the next admission? Thank you. Ayo

    1. Hello Ayo,
Since you graduated with a 2:1, you should have applied to pursue a masters program in Canada, instead of a PGD. Also, the course that you intended to study in Canada (i.e. Project management), is not related to your previous education (i.e. Engineering).
Sure, you can reapply as a masters student for next admission. But we recommend that before you submit a new application for a Canadian study permit, you should ask an authorized person to request for your Canadian visa case file (GCMS notes) for your previous application. Then, after you receive your visa file, and based on the visa officer’s notes, you will be able to act accordingly.
We offer access to information (i.e. Canadian visa case file request / GCMS notes) services, so you should contact us https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/ to assist you with requesting for your prior case file from IRCC.

  3. can i possibly cancel my 2months old visa application with the hope of reapplying for next session without raising any red flags? could this be detrimental to my chances of securing visa subsequently??
I would appreciate your response concerning the consequences. I learnt I can apply for withdrawal and they would let me know if they can cancel (only if processing hasnt started)

    1. Hello Quaresma,
The question we have for you is: Why do you want to cancel your current visa application? Yes, you can apply for a withdrawal. But we need to know why you want to do this, so that we can advise you accordingly.

  4. Hi:
My sister applied for a tourist visa for Canada a few days ago; now I want to apply for a study permit for Canada. She believes this will affect her chance of getting a visa. Will it?
    Thank you.

    1. Hello Ashi,
We will need more background information about your family background, in order for us to properly answer your question. So, kindly contact us https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/ either by email or phone and provide more details, so that we can advise you accordingly.

  5. hello,
my name is olayiwola mayowa..i was refused visiting visa, based on this reason.
i am not satisfied that you have answered all questions truthfully.as required by subsection 16(1) of the Act specifically.i am not satisfied that the following information is truthfully to section background information.question2b) please help me on this..

    1. Hello Olayiwola Mayowa,
Canada application for visitor visa (temporary resident visa) background information Question 2b is “Have you ever been refused a visa or permit, denied entry or ordered to leave Canada or any other country?”. So that means that you answered “No” to that question, when you should have answered “Yes”. Keep in mind that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) shares information with some other countries (e.g. the USA). So, if for example, you have been denied an American visa in the past and you answered “No” to that question, the Canadian visa officer will find out.
By answering “No” to that question, when in fact it should have been “Yes”, it diminished the overall credibility of your visa application, resulting in a visa refusal. They believe that if you were not truthful in answering that question, then they wonder what else you may have lied about on your application.
So, if you are considering re-applying for the Canadian visitors visa, or if you intend to apply for any other type of Canadian visa (e.g. Study permit) in the future, the first thing that you want to do is to ask an authorized person to request for your Canadian visa file (GCMS notes). We offer access to information (i.e. Canadian visa case file request) services, so you should contact us https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/ to assist you with requesting for this your case file from IRCC.

  6. Hi Plumville,
I am a mechanical engineer with an engineering management masters from University of Johannesburg, SA. I currently work for a local Nigerian firm where we do engineering and renewable energy related business. I have acquired a certificate from solar design and installation one week seminar and did an online waste to energy team program that lasted 3 months and was issued a certificate after the skype presentation. Now I am looking to study for another masters in Sustainable energy development that involves policy making as regards renewable energy industry.. I am currently applying for admission from Calgary and Carleton cause I couldn’t find any other university that does what fits in my career aspiration. I am self sponsoring myself and I am married with no kid.. (yet) I have the means, of paying for my own study and if my wife is accompanying me, I sure can afford it and it reflects on my account statement.. I have a rental property, and a cash investment in a small business that returns about 3 percents every months.. What do you think I can do and I am still in the early phase of applying for admission. Does any of your affiliate university has a masters program in sustainable and renewable energy engineering, and policy/ If yet, maybe I can use your organization and if not, I might stick with just the 2 I have in mind.. So what are my chances of securing a study permits..? Thanks Yusuf

    1. Dear Yusuf,
We can see that you’ve also sent us an email regarding this, so we will provide you with a detailed response via email.
Keep in mind that since you already have a masters degree and you intend to pursue another masters program in Canada, the onus is on you to prove to the Canadian visa officer that you are a genuine student. Because in general, there should be a progression in education. i.e. someone who has a masters degree, should idealy be going for a PhD and not another masters. Therefore, if you are applying for your Canadian study permit on your own, make sure that you include a strong statement of purpose, providing a rational reason why despite the fact you already have a masters degree, you now want to go for another masters degree.
On the other hand, regarding your chances of securing a Canadian study permit, there are so many factors that the Canadian visa officers take into consideration apart from finances. So, refer to the answer that we provided to the question above “What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?”, for guidance. If your wife will be accompanying you for your studies, that will mean that you lack family ties to your home country.

  7. can i apply for a 2nd masters in management after earning a masters in economics here in Nigeria??
or do i simply avoid disclosing the my 1st masters to avoid being refused admission/visa

    1. Hello Doo,
Since you already have a Masters in Economics and you intend to pursue another Masters in Management, there is a high chance that your Canadian study permit application will be refused because both programs are closely related… Except you can provide a rational reason why you want to do this.

  8. Sir, what is the Canadian student visa success rate after getting a medical call? I am asking this on behalf of my friend. His application was paper based application.
He applied to university for fall 2017.
Documents submitted on 11th June 2017
    Medical call on 21St June.
Please help me to clear my doubts as I am going to apply for winter 2018 session. Thank you.

    1. Hello Sultan,
Being asked to proceed with medicals, shows that there is progress in the visa application. In the past, being instructed to proceed with medicals was a positive sign that the visa will be approved, except the applicant has a medical condition that makes the person inadmissible to Canada. However, in recent times, there have been situations where a student was instructed to proceed with medicals, and the student visa was later denied for other reasons that is not medical related. Therefore, your friend should just keep his/her fingers crossed, because the visa decision could still go either way, regardless of the fact that he/she have been asked to proceed with medical… Especially looking at the timeline that you provided.

  9. I have an admission letter from a college in Ontario to study Pgd Agric business and I studied Agric economics and finished with a 2:2 .. paid a tuition deposit of can2200 , I would like to know the account statement and minimum balance requirements for my visa application to be successful.. some said I need a running balance of 8m naira and also documents of landed properties to show to increase chances from my sponsors .. please advice accordingly.

    1. Congratulations on securing an admission to study in Canada. As per IRCC (formerly: CIC), you/your sponsor must prove that you have sufficient funds to support yourself, while you are in Canada for your studies. For a single student, the financial document (e.g. bank statement) that you provide, must have a minimum of your tuition fee for one year + $10,000 CAD. Also, since someone else will be sponsoring you, he/she must have much more than the minimum amount required, because it does not make sense that someone will give you all their money for you to embark on your studies in Canada.

  10. Please my name is LOICK . please if I may ask what is the next step after receiving an admission letter into the Lethbridge university?

    1. Hello Loick,
Congratulations on securing an admission to study at the University of Lethbridge in Canada.
After receiving an admission letter from an educational institution in Canada (e.g. a university or college), the next step is for you to ensure that you have met all the terms of the offer letter (e.g. payment of any tuition deposit, if applicable). Afterwards, you can apply for your Canadian study permit. Information about applying for a Canadian study permit can be found on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website, here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-how.asp
Alternatively, you can contact us https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/ and we will be happy to assist you with your Canada study permit application. (P.S: We have sent you an email).
      Cheers!

  11. Hello ,
Have been refused visa for study permit in canada embassy accra, for the following reason: purpose of visit, no assurance that i will come back home after the program, financial status/asset, and Misrepresentation. I have travel history. i want to know if i still have chance to appeal from nigeria and chances of securing study permit visa. I used an agent called Genuine Visa Consult (GVC) and I got an email from VO asking if I used a representative and I answer “No” on my Study permit Questionnaire they gave me 15 days to respond which I got back to GVC which they asked me to deny and tell them I am been sponsor by my company. The visa was refuse and It says “you are welcome to reapply if you feel that you can respond to these concerns and can demonstrate that you meet the requirement”. Thank God i was not banned but i am still scared. i will be waiting for your feedback asap.

    1. Hello Yusuf,
From the information that you have provided, the primary reason why your Canadian study permit application was refused is due to misrepresentation. A visa refusal for “misrepresentation” will have significant impact on all your future interactions with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), as it is considered to be fraud. Misrepresented information can be provided (or omitted) by yourself, a family member, or your agent. In all cases, it is the principal applicant (i.e. you) who is at fault – even if the principal applicant did not know the misrepresentation occurred.
THE WAY FORWARD: Do not re-apply blindly, you should ask an authorized person to request for your Canadian visa file, so that you can see the visa officer’s note on your case file. For example, the Canadian visa officer may have given you a permanent record of fraud with them, so if you reapply in this situation, your new application is likely to be refused again.
We offer access to information (i.e. Canadian visa case file request) services, so you should contact us https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/ to assist you with requesting for your prior case file from CIC (now: IRCC). Kindly refer to the answer that we provided to the question above “Why should I request for my visa file from Citizenship and Immigration Canada…”, that will provide you with more info, as to why you must request for your visa case file.

  12. Hello Plumville,
I have all my documents ready and already registered with the cic.gc using the Gckey. I wish to apply online.
However I have done the eligibility questionnaire severally before I registered and didn’t bother to do it again.
I am concerned that I didn’t take note of my personal reference number and I may need it in my application.
Please what can I do? I am just in the stage of uploading my documents. Will I still need the personal reference in my application?

    1. Hello Dami,
If it is an Express Entry application that you are submitting online, then you may need the personal reference number. You can easily get a new one by completing a new eligibility questionnaire.
On the other hand, for other applications, it will not be necessary since you have gotten to the stage of document uploads.

  13. I had my B.Sc and MSc in Mechanical Engineering and I work with a multinational coy. But I intend to diversify into business because I believe that working for an organisation can’t make me what I to be in life. So ,I applied for a diploma in business administration in one of the colleges in Alberta and my admission has been issued to me. I have my personal and a Co-sponsor statement of account for the study permit and other documents. I also have hundreds of thousands naira online business i run a side from my job which am doing well with it. Please what’s the chance of securing the study permit knowing full well that i already had qualifications that surpassed the diploma.

    1. Hello Segun, the fact that you already have other educational qualifications that is higher than your intended program of study in Canada, is not in your favour. The Canadian visa officers may deem that you are not a legitimate student and only using “studying” as a way to get into Canada. So, the onus is on you to convince the visa officer that you are a genuine student. One of the way that you can do this is to include a letter of intent (also called a statement of purpose), explaining why you have decided to pursue a business administration program. Also, the chances of your visa approval will be higher if the admission you got is for a post-graduate diploma (PGD) program and not an undergraduate level diploma program.

  14. Hi Plumville
I studied computer science, took project management courses during my undergraduate days and now work as a project/operational manager at a multipurpose financial cooperative company. i gained acceptance into lambton college for pgd in enterprise project management {project management} . i have been given a sponsorship of 2700CAD by the company, with a written sponsorship letter to back that up, i also possess a duly signed leave of studies letter, and the companies statement of account with constant flow of nothing less than XXm every month.
but my fears are that i heard rumours that the canadian embassy are denying visa for students intending to study pgds in colleges due to the fact that nigerians abscorn the moment they arrive canada.
please what do you think are my chances?

    1. Hello! Congratulations on securing an admission to study Enterprise Project Management at Lambton College, Canada. There are so many factors that are taken into consideration by the Canadian visa officers when assessing whether a visa application should be approved or not. Based on the details that you have provided, you are on the right track.
The Canadian High Commission will certainly not want to approve a study permit application for a visa applicant whom they believe may abandon their studies when they arrive in Canada. So to prove that you are a genuine student and to increase the chances of your Canadian study visa approval, you may want to consider paying a portion of your tuition fee to Lambton College before you apply for your study permit, and then include the receipt of payment in your visa application. Good luck!

  15. Hi,
My study visa (Canada) got rejected. Reason: An application of this type must be made at a Canadian Visa office in another country.
Can you help me out with the next steps?

    1. Hello Ajay Patel. Sorry to hear about your Canada study visa rejection. Since you did not provide any background information, we cannot analyze the reason that you provided for your visa refusal. We will be happy to assist you with the next steps, so we have sent you an email.

      1. Hello am Edison I got rejected for study permit reason was I don not have sufficient income to pay fees without working in Canada and I did not show I will leave Canada after study dey check travel history an purpose of visit Right now am thinking of reapplying but I don’t know what to do on d part of travel history an purpose of visit how can I convinced the V O well am going for undergraduate study just 18 of age what do u think

        1. Hello Edison. Sorry to hear that your Canada study permit application was refused. Whenever there is a case of a Canadian study permit/visa refusal, we usually recommend that visa applicants request for their visa case file before reapplying, otherwise you risk having another visa refusal, if you do not properly address the visa officers concerns in your new visa application.
So, in order to increase the chances that your new visa application will be approved, you should ask an authorized person to request for your Canadian visa file.

  16. Hello, I applied for study visa in Canada on the 11th of April,2017. I applied to study Diploma Business Information System in Saskatchewan Polytechnic. I have a Bsc in Economics from a Nigerian university also a certificate proficiency in information system management from an IT school. I work as a Business Information Officer and I intend to broaden my knowledge of information systems that’s why I opted for the course. I am sponsoring myself and I did a family application (my wife and I). My closing account statement is N7M I have paid the $1000 the school requested for course space. As the only child back home in Nigeria and the custodian of my fathers estate,I got a signed letter from my father that he is aware of my plans to study in Canada and he trusts I will handle his estate with care, after then I notarized all the documents from my lawyer. Please what are my chances I get a study permit?
    Thank you.

    1. Hello Deji,
There are so many factors that the Canadian visa officers take into consideration when determining whether a Canadian study permit should be approved or not. So, refer to the answer that we provided to the question above “What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?”, for guidance.
In terms of finances, you must prove that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and your wife, while you are in Canada for your studies. Your closing bank balance must have a minimum of: Your tuition fee for one year + Additional $10,000 CAD to cover your living expenses + Another additional $4,000 CAD to cover your wife’s living expenses in Canada. As you did not state how much your tuition fee for one year is, I cannot say whether your N7 million closing balance is sufficient or not.
On the other hand, since you included your wife in your Canada visa application, that means that you lack family ties to your home country that may bring you back to Nigeria after your studies in Canada. This may reduce the success chances of your study permit application, as the Canadian visa officer may feel that you are using “studying” as a means to immigrate to Canada. Good luck!

      1. Hi Plumvile,
Is it true that the canadian embassy is currently generally denying nigerians student visa for those going for pgd programs in canadian colleges?
        thanks,
        Kind regards.
        Babe jnr

        1. Hello.
From our experience, we have discovered that there is a higher visa success rate for student’s who intend to pursue a masters degree in Canada, compared to student’s intending to pursue a post graduate diploma (PGD) or certificate in Canada. However, there is NOT a ‘blanket’ denial for PGD students.
In this situation, when you are applying for a Canadian study permit you have to be able to prove to the Canadian visa officer that you are a genuine student. For example, it is not realistic for a 1st class or a second class upper (2:1) graduate to decide to pursue a PGD program in Canada, except a rational explanation is included by the visa applicant in the visa application package. But, if a second class lower (2:2), a third class, or an Higher National Diploma (HND) student decides to pursue a PGD, then it is understandable.

    1. Hello Samuel. What type of Canadian visa are you interested in? For example, Temporary Resident Visa – TRV (i.e. Visitor’s Visa), Student Visa (with accompanying family members), Permanent Resident Visa (i.e. Immigrant Visa), etc.
Kindly let us know, so that we can provide you with the appropriate information. (P.S: We have also sent you an email regarding this).

  17. Hi Plumville,
My name is Kayode. I graduated with a 2.2 (3.44 of 5gpa) in Economics from a Nigerian University. Assessment of my last two years of undergraduate study does not meet up to 2.1gpa.
I nurse a dream to study abroad, preferably in Canada. What can I do to improve my chances of gaining admission to Vancouver Island University?
    Thank you.

    1. Hello Kayode. To study a Masters program at Vancouver Island University (VIU) Canada, the last two years of your undergraduate study must be equivalent to a second class upper (2:1). So, since your last 2 years GPA does not meet up with that, you will have to consider first going for VIU’s Post Degree Diploma in Business (PDDB) program. The PDDB program at VIU is a one year program, and if you have good grades in the PDDB program (usually a minimum of B average), you will be offered a spot in VIU’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) / Master of Science in International Management (MScIM) program afterwards.
You can contact us https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/ to assist you with your admission processing into VIU’s PDDB program or into any other program at other Canadian universities/colleges.

  18. Hello ,
Have been refused visa for study permit in canada embassy(accra), for the following reason. purpose of visit, no assurance that i will come back home after the programme, finacial status/asset , travel history. though all this have been explained in my explanatory letter apart from travel history that i do not have. i want to know if i still have chance to appeal from nigeria and chances of securing study permit visa. i will waiting for your feedback asap.

    1. Hello Yinka. Sorry to hear that your Canada study permit application was refused. Whenever there is a case of a Canadian visa refusal, you have two options:
OPTION 1: Re-apply, but ensure that you address the visa officers concerns. In order to increase the chances that your new visa application will be approved, you should ask an authorized person to request for your Canadian visa file.
OPTION 2: Proceed with a judicial review. This is usually a long process and only a licensed Canadian lawyer can get this done for you. Also, you should expect to spend anywhere between $2,000 to $5,000 CAD (depending on the lawyer) for this process, and you are not guaranteed a positive outcome with this either. So, we usually recommend that people start with ‘Option 1’ before considering this 2nd option.

  19. hello, please I am a registered nurse (diploma) who has been granted an admission for a post graduate course in Palliative Care multidiscipline in Canada, I would like to know my chances of getting a student visa and also if stating that on completion of my study there I plan on returning to my home country to pursue a degree as a part time student while working as a Palliative nurse who career is bright as a result of high demand in Nigeria

    1. Hello Rosemary,
There are so many factors that are taken into consideration by Canadian visa officers when determining whether a Canadian study permit should be approved or not. So, refer to the answer that we provided to the question above “What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?”, for guidance. Absolutely, stating that you intend to return back to your home country (Nigeria) after your studies, is a plus.

  20. dear Sir /ma my name is Edison, I just got admitted to ICM Manitoba. My father is my sponsor, my father opening ACC is XX million naira from d last since month to march. I apply for study permit on 18th april, do I still have a chance for approval from d embassy.

    1. Hello Edison. In terms of finances, the Canadian visa officer’s look at both the bank account trend and the closing balance. So, if there is sufficient closing balance, but the bank account history is not consistent with the closing balance, the visa may be denied for a reason similar to this “bank statements show recent and large deposits that do not demonstrate stable, readily available financial resources”. But if it is consistent, then you are okay in terms of finances. But, keep in mind that IRCC (formerly: CIC) verifies financial information, so your father will have to ensure that he maintains sufficient account balances (i.e. money) during the period that your visa application is being processed by IRCC.
Also note that a Canadian study permit application may be refused for other reasons apart from finances. So, refer to the answer that we provided to the question above “What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?”, for other possible reasons why a Canadian study permit application may be denied. Good luck!

  22. I am from bangladesh residing in Kuwait. Can my uncle(my mom’s brother) from America can financially support me by providing an affidavit and the family ties such as property papers etc. Will be shown by my parents?
And my IELTS results aren’t good. Can I get admission in universities without IELTS . I heard university of Saskatchewan gives admission without IELTS . Instead of IELTS I just have to show a letter from my high school that my medium of study was English. I want to go for undergraduate degree.

    1. Yes, your uncle can financially support you for your studies in Canada. And, an affidavit will suffice as proof of relationship. We (i.e. Plumville) mostly deal with Nigerian student’s, so we cannot confirm what pertains to Bangladesh/Kuwait. Hence, we recommend that you contact the Canadian educational institution that you intend applying to, to find out from them. For example, if you were a Nigerian, most (& not all) Canadian educational institution will waive the requirement for English test results (i.e. IELTS/TOEFL), as long as the Nigerian student had a minimum of C6 in English in their WAEC/NECO examinations (i.e. high school / secondary school). We hope this helps?!

      1. Ma’am I guess only an affidevit won’t satisfy them right. They will also ask for my uncle’s national Id or bio data page of passport. They will also as for the documents to prove such as my uncle’s birth certificates and my mom’s birth certificate that they both have same parents and even my mom’s marriage certificate. And they will also ask for written explaination for each and everything such as I have to convince that after I graduate I will be returning to my home country as an evidence of property papers, birth certificates and my parents investments like fixed deposit s etc.

        1. Hello Tahsif. An affidavit (with your uncle’s passport photograph affixed to it), along with your uncle’s valid ID (e.g. voter card, national ID, bio data page of international passport, etc.) will suffice. For visa purpose, more is always better. But, if you do not provide your uncle’s and mom’s birth certificate, that shouldn’t be an issue. Sure, a major aspect that the Canadian visa officer considers when reviewing a visa application is the applicant’s ties to the home country. Ties – such as a job, home, financial assets or family – helps to convince the Canadian visa officer that you may return back to your home country, after your studies in Canada. We can see that you’ve also sent us an email regarding this subject matter, so you can keep contacting us via email if you have any further questions.

  23. I just completed my national diploma in civil engineering…and I want to study electromechanical engineering what are my chances of obtaining a visa and what’s plumvilleint office address.

    1. Hello Kelvin. Congratulations on completing your National Diploma. There are so many factors that are taken into consideration by the Canadian visa officers when determining whether a Canadian student visa should be approved or not, hence we cannot determine your chances of obtaining a Canada study permit solely on the information that you have provided. The answer that we provided to the question “What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?” above, should serve as a guide for you. Kindly click this link https://www.plumvilleint.com/contact-us/our-offices/ for a list of our office addresses. P.S: We have also just sent you an email that contains some basic information to get you started.

  24. Please I have a problem of submitting my transcript.. My sec school can’t provide me with my transcript…. How does this affect my application.. Also I finished school since 2013 ND den Co computer school in 2015…while I worked as a sectary in a law firm…. How possible it is for my visa to be successfully processed with error free

    1. Hello David. Most Canadian schools will accept your WAEC/NECO result + scratch card, in place of your secondary school transcript. Which Canadian college/university are you applying to? There are so many aspects that are taken into consideration by the Canadian visa officers when determining whether a Canadian student visa should be approved or refused. The answer that we provided to the question “What are the common reasons why Nigerian students intending to study in Canada are refused a Canadian study permit?” above, should serve as a guide for you.

  25. Hi, can i apply for a 1 yr post graduate certificate program in canada or a 2 year post graduate diploma course in the same canada after already possessing a masters degree in the uk where i came out with merit?

    1. Dear William. Securing an admission into a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma (PGD) program in Canada, will be the easy part. However for visa purpose, since you already have a masters degree, in order to increase the chances that your Canadian study permit application will be approved, your best bet will be to pursue a PhD in Canada. On the other hand, if you decide to pursue a PGD in Canada, your visa may be refused, because it is not realistic that someone who already has a masters degree, will now want to go for a PGD. Except of course you can provide a convincing reason in your visa application, why you have decided to do this. Otherwise, the Canadian visa officer may believe that you are only using ‘studying’ as a means just to get into Canada, and deem that you are not a genuine student, hence a visa denial.

  26. I have a few questions:
What is the success rate of getting admission into Canadian universities for masters and what factors really matter in this process?
Are there options of scholarships for masters in Canada and what is the average total cost(fees and everything) of going for a masters program in Canada, i.e what estimate is expected in my or my sponsor’s account?
Finally, although I’m aware of the Post graduate work permit and the Canada express route to permanent residency, what are the chances of life and work in Canada after school?
Thanks in anticipation of your feedback.

    1. Each university in Canada has its own policy regarding admission requirements and the admission requirements will usually be available on the educational institution’s website. However, as a general rule, a Nigerian student wanting to pursue a Masters program in Canada, is expected to have graduated from their undergraduate studies with a Second Class Upper (2:1) or higher. But, if the student graduated with a Second Class Lower (2:2) from their undergraduate study, it is important you know that most Canadian educational institution will only consider a 2:2 for their masters program, if your GPA in the last two years of your undergraduate studies is above 3.00 on a 4.00 scale (i.e. 3.50 on a 5.00 scale). Keep in mind that meeting the minimum admission requirement that is required by a Canadian institution does not guarantee you admission.
With regards to the other questions that you’ve asked, they have already been answered by us in the “Part 1 of Our Study in Canada FAQs”, so kindly follow this link https://www.plumvilleint.com/study-canada-admission-visa-work-questions-answers/ to get answers to your additional questions.

    1. Canadian universities may not accept HND for their Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) programs. However, a large number of Canadian colleges will accept HND for their PGD programs. From our records, we see that you have been in touch with us via email, and we provided you with a response via email. So, once you reply our email, we will be able to assist you further.

  27. I have Bsc Chemistry and graduated 2008. I got accepted by Algonquin college to study Diploma in Practical Nursing. I explained in my SOP why I am changing careers. I presently work with a Bank. I have been working with the bank since 2011. I explained I went through health related painful experience, hence the career change. please advise.

    1. Dear Akinola. If the explanation that you gave in your Statement of Purpose (SOP) is believable, it will certainly be a plus for you. But, keep in mind that in your case, securing an admission will be the easy part, the major huddle will be whether your Canadian study permit/visa application will be approved or refused. Usually when someone already has a degree, the ideal situation is for the person to pursue a level of study that is higher than their previous degree. So, since you already have a BSc degree and you now want to pursue an undergraduate level diploma, the onus will be on you to prove to the Canadian visa officer that you are a genuine student.

  28. Please what transcripts do I need to submit as a secondary school graduate? I have been asked to submit evidence of all currentan d past education. Does that mean I have to get my primary school and junior school transcript too since I have only my high school transcript and neck result.

    1. Hello JJC. Most Canadian educational institutions will accept your WAEC or NECO result + the applicable scratch card, in place of a transcript. No, you are not expected to provide your primary school and junior secondary school transcript.

  29. Good day sir,my question is that,is there any university in Canada that I can continue studying after my National Diploma (ND) in a polytechnic in Nigeria

    1. Dear Oni. You can apply to an undergraduate program in Canada with your WAEC/NECO result and your National Diploma (ND) in the Nigerian polytechnic. Then, when you secure an admission, you will need to provide the course outlines for the courses that you did during your ND, in order for the Canadian school to consider whether those courses that you studied during your ND will be waived for you or not. If some courses are waived for you, that will mean that you will be able to obtain an undergraduate degree in Canada at a shorter time compared to if no course is waived for you. I hope this makes sense?!

  30. Hi, can incomplete waec result be used to apply for post graduate studies? Seeing that I did remedial in Nigeria? Please kindly reply. What are the o level results for?

    1. Hello Amina. Your question is not quite clear, but we will provide a response based on our understanding of your question. First of all, what do you mean by incomplete WAEC result? As a general rule, a Nigerian student wanting to pursue an undergraduate degree in Canada, is expected to have a WAEC or NECO result with at least five/six credits (depending on the Canadian school) including English and Mathematics. Keep in mind that to pursue postgraduate studies in Canada, you need to have had an undergraduate degree (e.g. a bachelors or HND degree).
